Flour Tortillas

Ingredientstortillat1

  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • tortillat3

Turn when the tortilla starts to go brown like this

    Around ¾ cup warm water

Method

  • Combine the dry ingredients. Add oil and warm water then mix.
  • Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes, then allow the dough to rest at room temperature wrapped in gladwrap for at least 10 minutes.
  • Give the dough a quick light knead and divide into 10-12 balls. Roll each out to approximately 25cm across.
  • Cook in a hot pan (you can lightly oil the pan but usually don’t need to if its non stick). Cook for 30-60 seconds until they start to turn brown. Turn and cook on the other side. The tortillas may bubble up a wee bit, that is perfectly fine.

They don’t have to be perfectly round.

Once they are cooked place in a damp tea towel to keep them soft. If not using straight away they can be reheated in the oven but wrap them in foil first.

Wraps make a great light meal on a hot day

Note: You may find it takes some practice to get the tortillas perfectly round but the reality is they don’t have to be perfect. They will still taste yummy 🙂

I never realised they were that straightforward. I might just have a go…

    1. Be warned though, once you start making these the family will turn their noses up at the shop bought ones 🙂
